FAQs

What is HOCl, and where did it come from?

HOCl isn't new — it was discovered in the 1800s and used to clean battlefield wounds in both World Wars. The problem was shelf life: it broke down in hours, making it hard to scale. Recent breakthroughs changed that, extending stability from hours to months.

At FURIE Solutions, we've taken it a step further. Every batch is made with the same formula, the same process, and the same precision — so every bottle of Gene you get performs exactly the same as the last. Consistent concentration. Consistent pH. Consistent results.

What is the shelf life of HOCl?

FURIE HOCl standard strength solutions have an EPA Registered shelf life of 4 months, meaning the concentration will be within ± 10% of the labeled concentration for a period of at least 4 months minimum. For hypochlorous solutions that are not EPA registered, the typical shelf life is between 6 months to 1 year.

How do I use FURIE?

On hard, non-porous surfaces, simply spray FURIE until thoroughly wet. Let sit for 10 minutes, then wipe with a clean cloth or allow it to air dry. FURIE kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria.

Many traditional cleaners require multiple steps—pre-cleaning, rinsing, and strong chemicals. Some HOCl-based products even require a pre-clean to be effective.

FURIE is designed for simplicity. With no harsh residues and no need to rinse, it offers an easy one-step approach to everyday surface cleaning.

USDA Organic vs EPA

Our products, certified USDA Organic or EPA Registered, employ identical formulas. We provide both options.

While many commercial clients opt for EPA registration for compliance, Most of our customers choose the USDA certified organic label. Rest assured, regardless of your choice, you're getting the same excellent product, but the USDA Organic has 500 pm, which is extra strength, calling for a faster kill time.

To make it easy to tell them apart — our EPA disinfectant line has a blue label and our USDA Organic cleanser line has a green label.

Is there a fragrance?

Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) is part of the same chemical family as chlorine, so it can carry a light, natural scent that’s sometimes noticeable. This mild smell is normal and indicates the presence of active HOCl. Fragrances can’t be added, as they would compromise the product’s purity, stability, and effectiveness.

Does it leave a film or residue?

No. FURIE is made with 99.935% reverse osmosis water. Independent lab testing has shown that its non-volatile residue is minimal—meaning it doesn’t leave behind the sticky or harmful residues often associated with conventional cleaners.

Simply spray on any hard, non-porous surface and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. No rinsing required.

Is FURIE safe around kids and pets?

Yes. When used as directed, FURIE is a gentle, non-toxic formula that’s suitable for use around people and pets. Unlike many conventional cleaners that contain harsh chemicals, our product is made without added synthetic fragrances or irritants—offering a more mindful approach to everyday cleaning.

How is FURIE different from traditional cleaners and DIY solutions?

Traditional cleaners like bleach, quats, and alcohol-based products get the job done — but they come with trade-offs: fumes, skin irritation, chemical residue, and environmental impact. DIY HOCl machines sound appealing but can't reliably control pH, which means you risk producing chlorine gas or diluted bleach instead of actual HOCl. Shelf life is also a problem — most DIY solutions break down within hours.

FURIE is different. Our HOCl is EPA-registered, precisely formulated, and ready to use straight from the bottle — no mixing, no rinsing, no ventilation needed. It kills 99.9% of bacteria, germs, and viruses, is non-toxic and fragrance-free, and breaks down naturally into water and salt. Same protection as harsh chemicals — without any of the harsh.
